Update on Boston Marathon Emergency

The situation in downtown Boston is still unfolding as emergency personnel respond to the explosions that took place near the finish line of the Boston Marathon earlier this afternoon.

Our priority at this time is confirming the well being of members of the Tufts community who were running the marathon, or attending as volunteers or spectators.

We have received reports that two Tufts students who were spectators were injured in the explosion. They sustained non life-threatening injuries and are being treated at area hospitals.

We have unconfirmed reports that all our runners are safe although we have not been able to reach all runners. It is difficult to identify all those who may have been watching the race but we will provide additional information as soon as we have confirmed it.

You may have heard reports of a suspicious package found in the emergency room at Tufts Medical Center. The emergency room was evacuated as a precaution. Boston Police investigated and found the package posed no threat to safety. Operations are proceeding normally at the Tufts Medical Center.

If you are in Boston and you need transportation back to the Medford/Somerville campus, Tufts has arranged for bus transportation from 136 Harrison Avenue on the Boston health sciences campus.

A service will be held at 9:15 PM tonight at Goddard Chapel on the Medford/Somerville campus. The chapel will open at 8:00 PM for anyone who wants to talk with someone, meditate or pray. Rabbi Summit will be at the gathering.

We will provide another update this evening or as soon as information becomes available.

Yesterday marked the last final of my third semester. This semester I took:

DHP-P222 Development Aid in Practice
DHP-P250 Elements of International Environmental Policy
ILO-L230 International Business Transactions
EIB-B231 International Business Strategy and Operations

in addition to an audited class of French 3! Technically, my work isn’t over. I still have to turn in a “next-to-final” draft of my capstone on January 8th but I am confident that I will be able to accomplish that over the next three weeks. Today, I’m headed to DC and then Saturday I’ll be going with my family to the mountains of Virginia. We’ll be hoping for cold weather to get those ski slopes open before we have to leave.
